FAQ
Common Questions
We accept MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, and most common audio formats. You can also record directly in your browser — no file needed. If your file plays on your device, chances are it will work here.
Anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Short clips, such as a spoken word, a laugh, or a single chord, often produce the most striking results because the spectral data is concentrated and distinct. Longer recordings work beautifully too; the engine adapts to the duration.
You can upload any audio you have access to for the purpose of creating a personal artwork. Each piece is a one-of-one generative interpretation of the sound's spectral data — not a reproduction of the recording itself. That said, we recommend using sounds that are personally meaningful to you; that's where the real meaning lives.
Our engine performs a spectral analysis of your audio, extracting frequency, amplitude, rhythm, and tonal colour. This data is then passed through one of eight generative algorithms: Meridian, Lattice, Aureole, Corona, Transmission, Strata, Orbits, and Flux. Each interprets the data into a unique visual language. No two outputs are alike because no two sounds are alike.
No, and the distinction matters. Every Vox Materia artwork is produced by deterministic design systems, not neural networks or generative AI. Here's what that means: our engine performs precise spectral analysis of your audio, measuring frequency distribution, amplitude envelopes, harmonic structure, and rhythmic cadence, then maps that data through hand-crafted algorithms built by artists and designers. Every curve, every gradient, every spatial relationship in your artwork is a mathematically faithful translation of your sound. There is no randomness, no hallucination, no probabilistic guesswork. The same audio will always produce the same artwork, because the output is a direct, pixel-accurate representation of the input. Think of it as a visual instrument: designed by human hands, played by your sound.
It depends on the product. Our framed prints use Hahnemühle German Etching paper: museum-grade, 310gsm cotton rag stock, printed with archival pigment inks and set in solid wood frames. Fine art giclée prints use the same archival paper and inks without the frame. Stretched canvases are artist-grade cotton on knotless pine stretcher bars with a 100-year colour guarantee. Acrylic panels are 12-colour giclée prints hand-mounted on 10mm crystal-clear acrylic with diamond-polished edges. All materials are chosen to last a lifetime and beyond.
Very closely. Our preview engine renders your artwork at production resolution using colour profiles calibrated to our print partners' output. Because the underlying design is deterministic (fixed colours, precise geometry, no random variation) what you see on screen is a faithful representation of the final print. Minor differences in perceived colour can occur between screens and physical media, but the structure, detail, and character of your artwork will be exactly as previewed.
We know the wait is the hardest part. Each piece is produced on demand by specialist printers, so please allow 5–7 business days for production. Shipping typically takes an additional 3–7 business days depending on your location. You'll receive tracking information as soon as your order is dispatched.
Absolutely. The entire creation flow, from audio capture through generator selection to product configuration, happens in your browser with a real-time preview. You'll see exactly how your artwork looks on your chosen product before you commit to anything.
Absolutely, and it's one of the most meaningful things you can give. Upload a voice note, a favourite song, or a recording that holds significance for the person you love. The entire creation process happens in your browser, so you can preview the finished piece before ordering. Many of our most treasured artworks began as gifts: a parent's voice for a child leaving home, a first dance song for an anniversary, a lullaby passed between generations.
Yes. We ship to most countries worldwide through our specialist print partners. Shipping costs and delivery times vary by destination and are calculated at checkout.
Because every piece is produced to order from your unique audio, we cannot accept returns for a change of heart. However, if your order arrives damaged or defective, we will replace it at no cost. Please contact us within 14 days of delivery with photographs of the issue.
